Enclosed photocopied reccomendation for the award of the Knight's Cross, obituary from December 1969 as well as biographical material on the military career of the recipient. Paul Adam took part in the First World War and subsequently became a reserve officer. On 1 July 1936, he was assigned to Artillery Regiment 45 as a first lieutenant in the reserve. On 31 March 1937, he was assigned to Artillery Regiment 36. At mobilisation he was called up as Captain of the Reserve to the 5th Battery of Artillery Regiment 36. On 13 May 1940, he was transferred to the staff of the II Division. Promoted to Major of the Reserve on 14 May 1941, he became leader of the Grenadier Regiment 158 on 18 August 1942. During the heavy defensive battles east of Kursk, he distinguished himself with his battalion on 7 February 1943, for which he was awarded the Knight's Cross on 18 April 1943. On 1 May 1943 he became commander of Artillery Regiment 132, followed by promotion to Lieutenant Colonel of the Reserve on 7 August 1943. On 1 January 1944, he was commanded to General Staff Training and subsequently Ia of the 302nd Infantry Division. On 10 March 1944, he was promoted to Colonel i.G.. On 28 October 1944, he was taken prisoner by the Russians. He was sentenced to 25 years in a penal camp and released in 1953. Beautiful and rare Knight's Cross group of this brave army officer.
