-- Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalogue.

Five bronze wall objects Switzerland, 1959-1966 Ödön Koch (1906-1977) - Zurich sculptor Signed and dated 'OK 59' lower right, 'OK 59' lower edge, 'OK 65' lower edge, and 'OK 66' lower edge (2x) Dimensions: 16 x 14 cm to 22 x 13.5 cm Very good condition Provenance: Swiss private collection An ensemble of five bronze reliefs in Koch's elemental style; a monumental concrete wall relief by the Swiss sculptor can be found in the facade of the University of Zurich The five wall objects by Ödön Koch (1906-1977) were created between 1959 and 1966. The bronze reliefs are inspired by the geometric forms of modernism, but also show the influence of ancient Egyptian sculptures, which the artist began to study after the Second World War. Rectilinear forms protrude from rectangular bronze plates merging into abstract compositions. The various levels create a visually appealing sense of space. All objects can be hung on the wall with screws attached to the back. The reliefs are in very good condition. They show some light abrasion to the patina and minor scratches. There are traces of red color to the date of the latest object. One of the screws on an object is slightly bent. The works are signed and dated 'OK 59' lower right, 'OK 59' lower edge, 'OK 65' lower edge, and 'OK 66' lower edge (2x). They measure 16 x 14 cm, 19.5 x 20 cm, 21.5 x 13.5 cm, 22 x 13 cm and 22 x 13.5 cm Ödön Koch (1906-1977) Ödön Koch was a self-taught sculptor, learning the art of sculpting outside of the art academies. His early work showed a traditional figurative style. Initially inspired by the sculptures of Henry Moore, Koch's works, which were created after 1945 acquired a cubist character with influences of ancient Egyptian sculpture, whose archaic language, the artist discovered in the Louvre in Paris. From the 60s onwards Koch continuously created monumental masterpieces of great simplicity and started working as a pioneer with concrete. These reliefs and sculptures were especially popular with Swiss architects using similar materials. A monumental concrete wall relief by the Swiss sculptor can be found on the facade of the University of Zurich. In 1977 the Kunsthaus Zurich honored the artist with a solo exhibition of his oeuvre from the previous ten years.
