Anna Aleksandrovna Kogan, (1902 – 1974), Suprematistic Composition

      Est: Kč100,000 - Kč200,000

mixed media (gouache, ink, collage) on paper 19 x 14 cm signed lower right: "A. Kogan" verso an old label Consulted with Professor Jaromir Zemina, Dr Karel Srp, Dr Jiri Machalicky, Aneta Kopecka and Vladimir Lekes. Confirmation of authenticity attached. The pioneer of geometric abstraction Kazimir Malevic launched the avant-garde Suprematist movement by exhibiting his controversial painting Black Square in St Petersburg in 1915. Most often, Supre-matist compositions feature geometric shapes, including squares, rectangles, circles and triangles, usually superimposed on a white background. The Russian painter Anna Kogan was a student of Kazimir Malevic at Vitebsk Art School between 1919 and 1922. She was one of the few female artists who identified with the Suprema- tist ideals and successfully transitioned into abstraction under the influence of Malevic. Her work is currently featured in a number of important art collections, including the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
