      Oil on cardboard Germany, circa 1920 Alexander Kolde (1866-1963) - East Prussian and exponent of the German Secession in Königsberg Signed in red with 'Kolde' lower right On the back with old label with information about the work and address of the artist in Flensburg Dimensions: 41.5 x 49.5 cm Gilt ornate frame: 50 x 58 cm Very good condition An expressionist city view with Kolde's typical loose brushwork in intense colors Condition: The painting is overall in very good condition with still fresh colors and two tiny paint losses upper right. The inspection under UV light reveals minor areas of retouching along the margins. The frame has only minor signs of use. The size of the painting is 41.5 x 49.5 cm, and the frame measures 50 x 58 cm. Alexander Kolde (1866-1963) Alexander Kolde was considered one of the most progressive artists of East Prussia in the interwar period. From 1906, he attended the Academy of Arts in Berlin and the Art Academy in Königsberg. He then studied with Angelo Jank in Munich and until 1913 with Lovis Corinth in Berlin. In 1918, he settled as a freelance artist in Königsberg. He founded the Artists' Association 'The Ring' and was prohibited to exhibit in 1936.
