        Nov. 28, 2024

        BRONCIA KOLLER-PINELL (Sanok 1863 - 1934 Vienna)

        Est: €15,000 - €25,000

BRONCIA KOLLER-PINELL (Sanok 1863 - 1934 Vienna) Market women with cart unloading cabbage, 1907 oil/canvas 32,5 x 40,7 cm monogrammed B. P. K. depicted in catalogue raisonné Broncia Koller-Pinell, vol. II, painting 81 (sketch for Frühmarkt 1907) SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE € 15000 - 25000 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE € 15000 The Austrian artist Broncia Koller-Pinell and mother of artist Silvia Koller was born Bronislawa Pineles in Subcarpathian Galicia. At the age of seven, she moved to Vienna with her parents. From 1881, she took lessons from the sculptor Josef Raab, then from Alois Delug. In 1888, she exhibited her works for the first time at the International Art Exhibition in Vienna. In the same year, the artist went to Munich for two years. After her return, she set up a studio on Piaristengasse and married the doctor and physicist Hugo Koller. The couple had Josef Hoffmann renovate a country house they had purchased in Oberwaltersdorf in 1904. It subsequently became a popular meeting place for artists and intellectuals such as Zülow, Mahler, Broch and Schiele. In 1908, Koller became a member of the “Kunstschau-Gruppe” and took part in their exhibitions. The lively exchange with artistic personalities such as Schiele and Gütersloh, as well as several trips within Europe from 1914 onwards, enabled her to intensively study the artistic trends of the time. Although her work has often been the target of severe criticism, she is now considered one of the most important Austrian artists. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.

BRONCIA KOLLER-PINELL (Sanok 1863 - 1934 Vienna) Nude with bent leg pencil/paper 63 x 45 cm monogrammed B.P.K. depicted in catalogue raisonné Broncia Koller-Pinell, vol. II, Gr 28 Auf rechtem Bein stehender weiblicher Akt mit verschränkten Armen partially yellowed on the edges according to its age SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE °€ 300 - 600 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE °€ 300 Broncia Koller-Pinell, who from 1881 took lessons from the sculptor Josef Raab and then from the painter Alois Delug, went through a stylistic development from the Munich School of the late 19th century to Impressionism, to Art Nouveau to the New Objectivity tendencies of the 1920s and was like no other another Viennese modernist artist present in international exhibitions. Her international breakthrough came with a joint exhibition with Heinrich Schröder in 1911 at the Galerie Miethke in Vienna. In this context, Berta Zuckerkandl described the artist as a “full-blooded, joyful artist.” She attested to her: “There is real, not imitated male energy in this section of form and in the brushstrokes of this artist.” In 1903, Koller-Pinell returned to Austria after spending several years in Nuremberg and turned to Secessionism. The house in Oberwaltersdorf, which Josef Hoffmann rebuilt for her and her husband Hugo Koller, became a popular meeting place for artists and intellectuals such as Zülow, Mahler, Broch and Schiele. The two market scenes are preparatory works for the well-known oil painting “Early Market” from 1907, which is owned by the Artothek des Bundes. Although the two pictures are very close to the picture “Early Market” in terms of color and style, they show genre-like scenes from the morning market that were not included in the final composition. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked °), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax of 13%, for photographs 20%, is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.

(Quelle: The Memory Factory „The Forgotten Women Artists of Vienna 1900_Broncia Koller-Pinell, Julie M. Johnson. Edition Tusch Wien 1976.", edition 30/65, monogrammed BPK, signed Rupert Koller (son and executor of the estate): "Eva" female nude in a landscape with white roebuck, framed, 18 x 23 cm; "Bird of Paradise", 30,5 x 30 cm; "Wienerwald Böheimkirchen", 25 x 33 cm; "Bei Heiligenkreuz", 20,5 x 29,5 cm; "Föhren bei Baden", 20 x 14 cm; all traces of age. Broncia Koller-Pinell came from a Jewish-Galician family of factory owners and after moving to Vienna, as she was denied access to the art academies as a woman, she received private painting lessons in Vienna and Munich. After marrying the electrochemist Hugo Koller and spending a few years in Salzburg and Nuremberg, she returned to Vienna in 1902 and came into close artistic and friendly contact with Klimt, Schiele and Kolo Moser. From 1904, her home in Oberwaltersdorf became the center for regular meetings of important artists and scholars of the Vienna Secession and later became a founding member of Schiele's New Secession. Stylistically, she is associated with the Viennese Secession and, especially with her color woodcuts, with Viennese Art Nouveau; after 1918, she develops a moderate Expressionist style of painting.
