Milena Korolczuk (born 1984), an artist from the Zabludów suburb of Podlasie and living in California in Oakland every day. Her films and photographs seduce us with extraordinary transparency and maturity, are full of emotions and calm at the same time, they form a fascinating and individual portrait of a new artistic generation. The artist is an absurd man - says Korolczuk - Acting is aware of defeat and does not leave him much joy outside of the process itself. Her films depict the paradoxical nature of art, which is based on the passion and commitment, and also the barrenness and unproductiveness of creative gestures. Korolczuk often makes his protagonists his peers - musicians, singers, dancers, whom he engages to act according to his own radical scenario. Girls from the church choir sing the tick of the clock, Dawid, a rock guitarist, in the winter, the Bialystok dawn stirs the residents of the estate playing the beat of their own heart.

The latest film, which we present at the exhibition in Raster, filmed in the phenomenal scenery of Death Valley, presents a young artist who, in more than 50-degree heat, creates an extraordinary, immaterial sculpture from the heightened sounds of the desert. The soundtrack for the film has been completely mixed with footage recorded in the open air - natural sounds and sounds: breaths, steps, sand, wind, etc.
Music plays a key role in Korolczuk's works. Measures and makes audible time pass, but it is also a metaphor for the search for life rhythm and harmony. Korolczuk, who is just starting her independent artistic career, treats art first and foremost as a study of human relations with space and time.
In the presented series of photographs, the material of art is bread - a material marked by symbolic and nutritional values. The likenesses of iconic figures from the history of philosophy, art, literature and pop culture stuck with the popular American Wonder Bread are here a side effect of the young artist's breakfast thinking, a record of the intrusive activity of free hands and seeking the idea of ??the mind.
