A Polish artist, Karol Kossak descends from four generations of notable Polish painters, writers and poets, the progenitor being Juliusz Kossak (1824-1899), a Polish painter of the partitions period. He was Karol’s grandfather. Karol was a painter, illustrator and watercolorist who studied in Lwow under Zygmunt Rozwadowski and Stanislaw Kaczor- Batowski. With WWI he stopped his studies in Vienna and began studying in Krakow, Poland under Ignacy Pienkowski and Wladyslaw Jarocki. After WWII Karol moved to Ciechocinek. Karol was a cousin of the painter Jerzy Kossak (1886-1955), who also was a grandson of Juliusz.
