The influences of his tutor Balthasar Paul Ommeganck (the renowned Antwerp landscape- and animal painter) are clearly discernable. In 1817 Van Kouwenhoven made a trip through Germany and Switzerland, where he made numerous sketches of nature, which he later made use of in his paintings. - (2x)
