Berlin Halensee' on the reverse Dimensions: 56 x 78.5 cm Good condition Light-flooded composition executed in loose style by the Berlin painter Hans Kraus This painting was created in 1936 by the painter Hans Kraus. Shown is a Berlin jaunt café or restaurant presumably in Berlin-Halensee with an idyllic park in the foreground. The whole composition was executed in loose brushwork and is characterized by the skillful use of light and shadow, the representation is therefore bathed in a soft warm light. The painting is signed and dated lower right 'H. Kraus 36' and inscribed in pencil 'Hans Kraus. Berlin Hallensee' on the reverse. It is overall in good condition. The edges slightly rubbed, at the upper edge tiny nail holes visible. The image carrier slightly bent, otherwise of good impression. The frame shows slight traces of use. The image measures 56 x 78.5 cm. The framed dimensions are 74 x 94 cm. Hans Kraus (born 1896) The painter Hans Kraus was born in Berlin in 1896. He was primarily active as a landscape painter and became especially known for his mountain landscapes. Hans Kraus used to live and work in Munich and Berlin. Dordrecht. 1908' Glass frame Sheet size: 39 x 56 cm Decorative view of the Dutch city Dordrecht with a view of the Grote Kerk; Herrmann's works on paper fetch up to €8.800 at international auctions This painting by Hans Herrmann was painted in 1908 in Dordrecht, South Holland and shows a typical Dutch city. It is a view across the Old Meuse towards the Grote Kerk, the Church of Our Lady, and thus the title is 'Dordrecht'. The unfinished tower rises into the sky on the left part of the painting. In the foreground to the left a group of people is assembled around a boat on the beach. The relatively sketchy drawing is colored and this results in lively shades. The painting is signed, inscribed and dated at the lower left 'Hans Herrmann. Dordrecht. 1908'. Painting and frame show heavy signs of age. In places the paper is much stained. The framed dimensions are 48.5 x 65.5 cm, the sheet measures 39 x 56 cm. Hans Herrmann (1858-1942) The German painter Hans Herrmann was born on the 8th of March 1858 in Berlin. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin from 1874-1879 and then continued his studies in Düsseldorf. In 1883 he traveled to the Netherlands for the first time where he produced his first studies in Dordrecht and from 1886 onwards he traveled there every year. He focused on painting villages, cities and harbors, often including figures, a grey sky and typical Dutch folklore elements.
