GEORGE KRAUSE, PORTFOLIO 1960 - 1970. A beautiful clamshell box, 21 ½ x 14 ½ x 2 ¼- inches, containing 12 toned gelatin silver prints. This was published in 1980 by the Mancini Gallery, Philadelpha/Houston, in an edition of 50 and 5 artist's proofs. This is number 13 of the edition. Each print is 6 1/2 x 4 ½- inches on a 9 x 6 ¾- inch sheet (or the reverse) in a window mat. The titles and negative dates of the 12 prints from the enclosed printed fold-out are shown in one of the scans, along with a scan of the list of institutions that had Krause photographs in their permanent collections, and a list of some individual and group exhibitions as of 1980. There are many more since then. These images from this major period of Krause's work were printed by Krause, and no more of these subjects would be printed. Each mount is signed with the number of the print in the portfolio and the edition number. The photographs bring one into a dreamy suggestive world. The intimate-size prints are rich and subtle, and this gives the portfolio a special character, as it allows one to look closely at each print as one goes through the portfolio.
