Gouache on gauzy ivory plate; laid down on cardboard Russia/Austria, 1831 Carl Kronnowetter (1795-1837) – Austrian-Russian miniature painter, specialized in portraits Signed and dated on the left edge ‘Kronnowetter 1831’ Dimensions: 7 x 5.5 cm Locket frame: 7.5 x 6 cm Good condition Provenance: Private collection, Vienna Portrait of an aristocratic lady; the miniature was painted in 1831, when Carl Kronnowetter was probably still working in St. Petersburg Condition: Inspection under UV light and partly also under natural light condition reveals areas of retouching to the edges and to the background, as well as to the dress and to the cap of the sitter. Besides there are slight traces of glue at the right edge. The ivory plate measures 7 x 5.5 cm. The oval locket frame shows signs of age and use and measures 7.5 x 6 cm.
