Aquatint and monotyping on wove paper Russia/England, 1995 Oleg Kudryashov (b. 1932) - Russian painter, sculptor and graphic artist Inscribed in Cyrillic with pencil lower right and dated '95' Numbered in pencil lower left '2/45' and inscribed in Cyrillic lower left '(Doska?) 2367' Fluted wooden frame Overall dimensions framed: 95 x 125 cm Good condition Provenance: Private Collection Sweden Spontaneous composition in sepia tones following the style of abstract expressionism; graphic works by the Russian artist fetch up to 4,000 euros on the international auction market This work by the Russian artist Oleg Kudryashov originated in 1995. It is an aquatint etching, printed in rich sepia tones, which is issued in an edition of 45 copies. Our copy is the second print, which was further processed with the technique of monotyping. Monotyping, in its meaning 'a single image', produces an original print; the transparent wash over the print cannot be reproduced as in the conventional printing processes. This unique print follows the style of abstract expressionism, depicting a composition full of spontaneity with a delicate, transparent white monotype. The work is inscribed with pencil in Cyrillic and dated '95' as well as numbered '2/45' and '2367'. The sheet is mounted on the reverse at several points (reversible) and is overall slightly wavy, otherwise in very good condition. The sheet measures 78 x 106 cm. The framed dimensions are 95 x 125 cm. The frame shows slight signs of wear. Oleg Kudryashov (b. 1932) The artist Oleg Kudryashov was born in Moscow in 1932. At an early age he began to train its affinity for painting. As early as 1942, he took art classes at an art school for children, from 1949-51, he attended the Gabar art school, followed by a training at the Union Cartoon Studio. In 1961 he became a member of the Moscow Artists' Association. In 1974 he emigrated to London and finally returned back to Russia in 1997. Kudryashov works with various media such as, painting, sculpture, video, as well as woodcut and etching. His paintings are full of spontaneity and pursue the style of abstract expressionism.
