      Dec. 02, 2014

Albert Küchler (1803-1886), Family Scene at Lake Nemi, 1836

      Est: €5,600 - €7,000

Oil on canvas, relined Italy, 1836 Albert Küchler (1803-1886) - Danish painter of the Golden Age Monogrammed, inscribed and dated with 'A. K. Rome 36' lower right Dimensions: 96 x 76 cm Good condition Provenance: Private collection, Northern Germany The 'Family Scene at Lake Nemi' exists in several versions, one of which is on display at the Thorvaldsen Museum in Copenhagen. The large genre scenes by Küchler sell for up to €30,000 in the international auction market Albert Küchler (1803-1886) painted the present family scene, when he was already living in Italy. Influenced by the Nazarene art, Küchler's neo-classical paintings feature a graphic quality and clearly contoured shapes. The present painting depicts a family scene at Lake Nemi, south-east of Rome. A woman sits on a ledge within a neoclassical architecture backdrop, holding her newborn child on her lap. A second woman holds a spindle over the little child. Behind the women appears the Lake Nemi before a mountainous landscape and a village in the background. In the present painting, Küchler - who studied the works of the Renaissance in Italy - shows his exceptional artistic talent that is manifested particularly in the garments of the women, the highly detailed plants and the coherent perspectives. The painting is monogrammed, inscribed and dated with 'A. K. Rome 36' lower right. The back shows a later label of the Thorvaldsen Museum, which refers to another version of the painting in the museum. The canvas has been relined and is slightly waved in the upper left corner. The overall impression is good. The varnish most likely covers some small areas of retouching. The frame shows slight signs of wear. The dimensions of the canvas are 96 x 76 cm, and the frame measures 113 x 94.5 cm. Küchler, Albert: Italienisches Mädchen mit Tamburin

      Est: €1,000 - €1,500

Italienisches Mädchen mit Tamburin. Bleistift auf Velin. 22,4 x 14,3 cm. Unten rechts signiert "A.
