BIOGRAPHY: He was born in Vouneuil-sur-Vienne, France, in 1893, July 22, and died in Paris at the age of 81 on Sept 3, 1974. On August 2, 1922, he married Marthe Germaine Page (1891-1975) in Paris. He had two daughters. He was influenced by Paul Signac (1863-1935), who helped him to start in La Rochelle at the beginning. He was a friend of Maurice Denis (1870-1943) and of other "Art-Sacre" painters in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Jean Souverbie (1891-1981) was one of their friends, as well as Lucie Tullat. Roger de la Corbiere is most noted for his paintings of coastal scenes with emphasis on the sea and the effects of light thereon, even if he painted snowed mountains (French and Swiss Alps). In France, he exhibited at the Galerie Katia Granoff (Quai Conti, in Paris, as well as in Honfleur) and at the Galerie Hautecoeur (rue de Rivoli, Paris); he exhibited also at the Salon des Artistes Independants, Salon d'Automne and Salon National des Beaux Arts. Several of his paintings were acquired by the French State in 1925, and are included in the collections of the families of the Maharaja de Kaarpoutala, Comte de Tocqueville, Professor Marion, Andrei Gromyko and the USSR Embassy.

A beautiful painting of the coastline of Saint Lunaire in Brittany of northwest France, with the sea glistening in natural light by Henry Roger Mascarel de la Corbiere who is best known for such luminous coastal scenes. Born in Vouneuil-sur-Vienne, de la Corbiere was supported early on in his career by modernists Paul Signac (1863-1935) and Maurice Denis (1870-1943). This painting presents a coast just at the moment when day turns to night. Corbiere studied under Russian artist Choltse at the Academy of Fine Arts, and spent his career traveling and painting the coasts of not only France, but also Italy and Spain. He was especially fond of the Riviera. His audience was truly international. Size: 21.5" W x 17.5" H (54.6 cm x 44.4 cm); 28.875" W x 25.5" H (73.3 cm x 64.8 cm) framed In his native France, Roger de la Corbiere exhibited at the Galerie Katia Granoff (Quai Conti, in Paris, and in Honfleur) as well as at the Gallery Hautecoeur (Rue de Rivoli, Paris). In 1926, he began exhibiting at the Society of Independent Artists. Six years later, in 1932, de la Corbiere became a member and exhibitor at the National Society of Fine Arts, and in 1956 at the Society of French Artists. He also exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Independants, Salon dAutomne and National Exhibition of Fine Arts. Several his paintings were acquired by the French State in 1925 and are included in the collections of the families of the Maharaja of Kaarpoutala, Comte de Tocqueville, Professor Marion, Andrei Gromyko and the USSR Embassy. In the USA Roger de la Corbiere was represented by Arnot Gallery in New York, where his paintings remain on exhibition.
