      ALEXANDER LAEMLEIN (FRENCH 1813-1871) Portrait fo Mother and Child, 1843 oil on board 101 x 77 cm (39 3/4 x 30 1/4 in.) signed and dated lower left CONDITION Observed in frame. The painting is in age appropriate condition. Overall craquelure visible to the naked eye. There is loss of paint around the perimeter and in the upper center of the canvas. The painting has been relined. Inspection under UV shows variant fluorescence but no apparent signs of retouching. N.B. All lots are sold in as-is condition at the time of sale.       LAEMLEIN, Alexandre (Französisch/Deutscher Maler, Radierer und Lithograph, 1813 Hohenfeld - 1871 Pontelevoy, Loire et Cher, besuchte die Académie des Beaux Arts in Paris und war Schüler von Regnault und Picot, seit 1836 stellte er in den Pariser Salons aus und wurde vor allem bekannt durch seine großformatigen allegorischen Darstellungen), "Le rêve", Öl auf Leinwand, Dm 140,5, Rahmen: 160 x 160, Die griechische Mondgöttin Selene verliebte sich in Endymion. Sie versetzte ihn in eine Höhle auf dem Berg Latmos. Dort ließ Selene ihn in einen ewigen Schlaf verfallen, um ihn vor dem Tod zu bewahren und dadurch ewige Jugend zu schenken. Jede Nacht kommt sie in die Höhle und küsst Endymion. Mit Selene hatte er 50 Kinder. Rechts in der Mitte signiert und datiert 1855, Prunkrahmen, Provenienz: Geschenk von Hr.J.J.Rouse an die Art Gallery von new South Wales, Sydney 1916. Verkauft bei Lawson's Sydney 18.2.1959.
