      Miranda Lake (American/New Orleans, b. 1969)

      Est: $1,200 - $1,800

Miranda Lake (American/New Orleans, b. 1969), "Department of Homeland Security", 2006, encaustic and mixed media collage on panel, signed, titled, dated and gallery label with title and date en verso, 34 in. x 48 in., unframed. Provenance: Jonathan Ferrara Gallery, New Orleans, LA. Note: An encaustic artist based in New Orleans and widely exhibited nationally, Miranda Lake received a Bachelor of Arts in art history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by studies at Parsons School of Design and the London College of Fashion. Lake’s work is inspired by her many travels and the cycles of nature such as life and death and decay and renewal. Through her trademark photo encaustic collage process, Lake finds beauty in hardship and prefers to let viewers interpret her mysterious subjects as they will, rarely divulging her own explanations. The work offered here is the perfect example, as it appears at once both fantastical and surreal with a dark thematic composition punctuated by images of innocent children.
