    • David Lamelas, Large Pastel on Canvas ‘Solar Energy’, 1986
      Dec. 03, 2015

David Lamelas, Large Pastel on Canvas ‘Solar Energy’, 1986

      Est: €3,000 - €3,900

Pastel on canvas USA/Belgium, 1986 David Lamelas (born 1946) – Argentinian sculptor, concept artist, photographer and experimental film maker Monogrammed on the upper right on the reverse on the canvas ‘D.L.’ Dimensions: 113 x 159.5 cm Very good condition Provenance: German collection, directly acquired from the artist in 2002 David Lamelas is considered one of the pioneers of conceptual art of the 60s and 70s Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 6,000 Euro The present work is a large pastel study for the painting ‘Reception Center for Solar Energy’ by the Argentinian concept artist David Lamelas. The artist has painted a yellow-grey-white windmill in a black frame in front of changing red-orange background. The artist, interested in ecological subjects, questions how the solar plant could look like in the future. Lamelas tries to find a graphic solution for a problem that cannot be solved by the fine arts. As the depiction has nothing in common with the regular solar plant we know and the wind rose shows more similarities with a windmill, the artist confuses the beholder and makes them believe in the utopia of art as the answer for the present problems. Lamelas has dealt with the themes of space and time and the changes of modernity in a number of post-minimalist installations, performances, photographs, and movies. The work is initialised on the upper right on the reverse of the canvas ‘D.L.’. The artwork is in good condition with usual traces. The dimensions are 113 x 159.5 cm. David Lamelas (born 1946) The Argentinian artist David Lamelas is regarded a key figure in the concept art of the avant-garde since the 60s. His early structural films and media installations of the 60s and 70s are especially important in the innovative treatment of the themes time and space, and his work greatly influenced later generations. He studied at the Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires and the St. Martin’s School of Arts in London. He has received a number of highly remunerated prizes for sculpture in Argentina, among them the Prize for sculpture by the IX Biennale of Sao Paolo, where he exhibited his most famous workOffice of Information about the Vietnam War on Three Levels: The Visual Image, Text and Audiothat was later also seen at the Venice Biennale in 1968, and which has recently been acquired by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 1986, he received the British Arts Council Fellowship for the support of his work, and in 1993 the Guggenheim Fellowship. Since the 60s, he has very actively participated in a number of national and international single and group exhibitions, for example at the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels and the Musée National d’Art Moderne in Paris. The artist lives and works in New York and Brussels. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance. Auctionata charges the resale rights tax pursuant to Section 26 of the German Copyright Act (UrhG) towards the buyer in case of the sale of an original work of art or photography prior to 70 years having lapsed since the death of their creator.
