      Known as one of the "Big Four" pacers of his day, Rowdy Boy became the third trotter to complete a mile in 2:15 in 1879. The driver is Dr. E. Hutcheson Heard of Brooklyn, New York. Oil on canvas, 18 1/4 x 18 inches. Signed and dated "Chas. Lamson '98" l.l. Accompanied by Heard's 1898 Rider's and Driver's License from The National Trotting Association, affixed with photograph. (2) Provenance: Descended in the family to Dr. Heard's granddaughter; Fenimore Art Museum, Cooperstown, New York.
