Sir Osbert Lancaster (British, 1908-1986) Candide - set of three theatrical set designs, circa 1959 each inscribed verso 'Candide' and one dated, gouache the largest 14 1/2" x 20" (3). Candide opened at the Saville Theatre, London on April 30 1959 after runs at the New Theatre, Oxford, and the Opera House, Manchester. It ran for 60 performances and starred Denis Quilley. Osbert Lancaster designed the sets and costumes.
