Heinrich Lang (1838-1891), Horse Carriage in Landscape, 1861

      Est: €2,080 - €2,600

Oil on canvas, relined to the margins Germany, 1861 Heinrich Lang (1838-1891) – German animal painter and painter of battle scenes, draftsman, illustrator and author Signed and dated 'H. Lang 1861' as well as inscribed 'Paris' lower right Dimensions: 53 x 95.3 cm Wooden frame: 103 x 61.3 cm Good Condition The extreme horizontal format of the painting gives men, animals and the deeply laden horse carriage space. The group seems to be having a break on the edge of the field – it is a characteristic painting of the passionate horse painter Heinrich Lang! Condition: The painting is in good condition consistent with the age. The varnish has been darkened and there are very few small marks. Tiny craquelé can be seen on the canvas found and there some rubbings due to the frame along the edges. The painting has been skillfully repaired and the inspection under Uv light reveals small areas of retouching on the figures and along the edges. The frame is in good condition with only minor signs of wear. The dimensions are 53 x 95.3 cm and the frame measures 103 x 61.3 cm. Heinrich Lang (1838-1891) The Regensburg-born artist Heinrich Lang was a painter, draftsman and illustrator of the 19th century with a passion for horse images and battle scenes. Lang studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich and went to gestates in Württemberg and Hungary on his own to study the anatomy and behavior of horse. That way these animals were his favored motifs: He painted single horse, horses in groups, paintings in combination with men, as well as the battle scenes. He got a job as a painter in the Franco-German war in 1870/71: 'Erinnerungen eines Schlachtenbummlers' are his memories called, where he combined and texts and sketches of the battles. The favored subjects of his oeuvre are depictions of military, country and circus life. Works of the artist can be seen among others in the following public collections: Nationalgalerie in Berlin, Neue Pinakothek in München as well as in Schlesischen Museum in Breslau.
