Franz Xaver Layr, The Good and the Beggar, c.1850, copper engraving Description: Engraving by Franz Xaver Layr, inscribed lower right: "Layr fes: "Who has two skirts give one to the one who has none who has food do the same Luc. cap. 9.v.11. 183 Landgericht Sonnenburg". Beautiful copperplate engraving to the saying of John the Baptist to the people. Just now a man leaves his house and gives his coat to a beggar sitting in front of it. Franz Xaver Layr (Höttinger Ried (Innsbruck) 1812 - Baden (Vienna) 1875) was an Austrian painter and engraver. He was active in Austria and Italy, among other places.
