      Est: €4,800 - €6,000

Dark and green patinated bronze France, circa 1890 Arthur Jacques Le Duc (1848-1918) - French sculptor Signed on the base 'le Duc scup =' Inscribed 'A LE DUC / A TORIGN' on saddlecloth Dimensions (incl. plinth): 67 x 61.5 x 25.5 cm Good condition Provenance: German private collection A version of the large bronze group titled 'Cheval de Renfort' with three playing peasant children; the auction record for this bronze sculpture is currently set a 25,000 euros The present bronze with the original title 'Cheval de Renfort' by Arthur Jacques Le Duc (1848-1918), an important French animal sculptor, was created around 1890. It shows a plow horse after work its head tilted to the ground, still wearing its collar, harness and fur. Three peasant children in plain, partly torn clothes help each other to mount its back. The elaborately worked animal stands on a square, naturalistically shaped plinth with a sheaf of wheat, a basket and a discarded snaffle. In this work Le Duc exhibits his skills as animalier with a great talent for rendering the human form. The bronze is in a good condition. It is composed of several cast elements and artificially patinated. The original chain of the harness is missing. The bronze is signed on the base 'le Duc scup =' and inscribed 'A LE DUC / A TORIGN' on saddlecloth. It measures 67 x 61.5 x 25.5 cm (height x length x width). Arthur Jacques Le Duc (1848-1918) Arthur Jacques Le Duc studied under Pierre Lenordez and Antoine-Louis Barye. In 1872 he settled in Paris and exhibited his works at the Salon between 1873 and 1914. His sculptures were awarded with numerous medals and Le Duc became an associate of the Société Nationale des Beaux Arts in 1893. The artist is renowned for his life-like sculptures of animals, which he rendered with great skill.
