    • Jean-Baptiste Lebroc (Paris 1825-Paris 1870) : Little fisherman

      Jean-Baptiste Lebroc (Paris 1825-Paris 1870) : Little fisherman

      Est: €1,500 - €3,000

France, 1825-1870 Bronze, transparent golden hazelnut patina sculpture: 24 x 13 x 15 cm base: 10 x 13 x 13 cm The bronze in question represents a putto dressed as a fisherman and probably was part of a series of "professions". The Lebroc bronzes are characterized by a very high quality of workmanship and invention which places him among the great French masters of the 19th century. In this subject, this is demonstrated by the fishing net and the rendering of the face.  The style of this sculptor is influenced, especially in the physiognomy of the children, by Francoise Duquesnoy, a well-known baroque artist Flemish naturalized in Rome. The translations of his most successful subjects for the Sevres factory are known, both in bisque and in terracotta. The bronze is signed Lebroc on the base and has a ancient pedestal in white and pink alabaster, in neoclassical style.
