The print and passes have been professionally framed together in a frame measuring 33" x 30.5". New York Mets pitcher Tom Seaver pitching against the Baltimore Orioles during Game 4 of the 1969 World Series at Shea Stadium. This photograph was taken on October 15, 1969. Neil Leifer's press passes: 1. A pink press pass with navy lettering for an event prior to the game. It reads "1969, World Series, Shea Stadium, Name, Affiliation, Not Good For Admission, Field, When in use, this must be worn where it can be seen. Tom Seaver and the '69 Mets Please Note that Neil Leifer's iconic photograph, along with the press pass he used to access to the event are professionally framed, resulting in a most handsome display. Created to replace the West Coast-bound Giants and Dodgers, the NY Mets bumbled their way through the team's first half dozen seasons. Unpredictably, the team came together in what now is viewed as the remarkable 1969 season when, led by pitching ace and team leader Tom Seaver, they went all the way. In a world where today it is not uncommon for a team to use four, five, or six pitchers to get through nine innings, in 1969 "Terrific Tom " not only had a league-high 25 wins, but pitched nine consecutive complete games. Neil Leifer Neil Leifer is commonly acknowledged as one of the greatest sports photographers in history. From the game-winning touchdown in ‘The Greatest Game Ever Played’ to Muhammad Ali standing over Sonny Liston to Pele being carried off the field after Brazil won the 1970 World Cup, Leifer has established himself as arguably the greatest sports photographer of all time. Beginning in 1960, spanning a career of over 50 years, his pictures regularly appeared in every major national magazine, including the Saturday Evening Post, Look, LIFE, Newsweek, Time and, most often, Sports Illustrated. By1990, his photographs had appeared on over 200 Sports Illustrated, Time, and People covers—at that point, the most ever published of one photographer’s work in Time Inc. history. Neil Leifer is the 2006 recipient of the prestigious Lucie Award for Achievement in Sports Photography. In 2008 he was honored for his outstanding contribution to Time Inc. journalism with The Britton Hadden Lifetime Achievement Award. He has published 16 books, 9 of which have been collections of his sports photographs. Sports, his 1978 Abrams book, is considered by many to be the quintessential sports photography book. Leifer has traveled all over the world on sports assignments. He has photographed 16 Olympic Games (7 winter and 9 summer), 4 FIFA World Cups, 15 Kentucky Derbies, countless World Series games, the first 12 Super Bowls and every important heavyweight title fight since Ingemar Johansson beat Floyd Patterson in 1959. He has photographed his favorite subject, Muhammad Ali, on almost 60 different occasions—covering his biggest fights and over 30 one-on-one studio sessions. Joe Namath - Super Bowl III Following the first two NFL - AFL Football Championships, this third event was the first to be labeled "Super Bowl." The landmark game pitted the NFL powerhouse Baltimore Colts and the AFL's New York Jets. The Jets were 19 1/2 point underdogs and few gave them any chance. Three days before the game, Joe Namath famously "guaranteed" a Jets victory. This met with much ridicule until the teams met on the field. The Jets dominated the game, winning 16 - 7; Joe Namath was voted MVP. Neil Leifer Neil Leifer is commonly acknowledged as one of the greatest sports photographers in history. Without these passes, Mr. Leifer would not have had access to the fight and this memorable photograph could not have been taken. The print and passes have been professionally framed together in a frame measuring 30" x 30.5". Please Note that Neil Leifer's iconic photograph, along with the press pass he used to access to the event are professionally framed, resulting in a most handsome display. The Fight Transcending fight fans, the world was truly fixated on the young, brash Cassius Clay who had changed his name to Muhammad Ali as he became an adherent to the Nation of Islam. His shocking wins over the fearsome Sonny Liston placed him squarely in the spotlight and his every move sparked controversy. Former Heavyweight Champion Floyd Patterson had been badly beaten by Liston in two one-round fights. But now Patterson was on the comeback trail with five successive wins against formidable opponents. Hoping for a chance to regain his crown, Patterson publicly questioned Ali's motives and patriotism. The back and forth between Ali and Patterson worked well as the world looked forward to their November 22, 1965 fight. Although it was later revealed that Patterson had a back problem going into the fight, the event was one-sided as Ali dominated. Indeed, he was criticized as "toying" with Patterson and prolonging the fight which ended in an Ali TKO in the 12th round. The two men fought again seven years later with similar results.
