              Est: €1,500 - €1,800

Attributed to JULES LELEU (1883 - 1961), circa 1930. Table. Oak, fruit veneer and bakelite. Measurements: 66 x 90 x 58 cm. Table with slender cabriole legs with a waist that appears cut with a sinuous game that harmonizes with the curves of the legs and the tabletop. Aesthetically the work presents similarities to pieces by Leleu, who achieved great recognition for his use of rare woods, ivory inlays and other luxurious elements that were a hallmark of much Art Deco furniture, His furniture was widely admired for its classic lines and modernity, two seemingly opposing ideas that Leleu knew how to combine to perfection to create his elegant and distinctive designs. His furniture was often compared to that of his most famous contemporary, Emile Ruhlmann, and some of his work might seem to have been inspired by Ruhnmann. Jules Leleu (1883 - 1961) born in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, Leleu studied decorative painting, and at the age of 26 succeeded his father in the family painting business. With his brother he started working in the field of Decoration. After World War I, Leleu specialized in furniture making. He opened a gallery in Paris, Maison Leleu, in 1924 and exhibited at the 1925 Exposition Industrielle et Arts Decoratifs, winning a grand prize at the exhibition. Leleu designed the Grand Salon des Ambassadeurs of the League of Nations in Geneva and the French embassies of several nations, as well as the ocean liners SS Ile de France and SS Normandie.
