Barry Lett is a leading figure in New Zealand’s art scene. In 1965, a year after graduating from Elam School of Fine Art, he founded Barry Lett Galleries – an iconic establishment that served as a premier, innovative art dealership in New Zealand at the time.

Over the years, Lett has built up an almost iconic reputation for his dog sculptures executed in wood or stone. He returned to painting in 2009, experimenting with the reassemblage of sawn timber to create unique paintings characterised by their flattened form. A keen conservationalist, he often includes recurring bird imagery in his artwork.
