    Antoine-Louis BARYE et Edmond LÉVÊQUE (1814 – 1875) Groupes d'enfants Paire de candélabres à trois lumières en bronze patiné et doré, signés, H : 30 cm Le catalogue PR indique sous la référence F 43 page 120 pour un « Groupe d’enfants supportant une coquille » : que « La signature de E. Levêque est sans doute celle d’Edme Lévêque, qui expose au Salon entre 1833 et 1874. On peut donc penser que ce groupe est une œuvre de collaboration entre les deux artistes, tandis que les putti seraient de Barye, les coupes et l’arrangement seraient de Lévêque... On peut donc supposer que dans cette paire de candélabres les bronzes dorés sont de Lévêque.

Provenance: originally from the Ken Paul Collection. Offered for sale by Sotheby's in 2002. This bronze was hired as a prop for the filming of 'Quills'. This is one of Edmond Leveque's most successful bronzes, reflecting the 19th century passion for exotic Orientalist subjects.
