At top in pencil it says: OH DEAR, CAPTAIN - THE HORRID OLD ENGINE HAS STOPPED - WHICH LEVER SHOULD I PULL NOW? Condition: light stain line in meddle; losses at 3 edges - not affecting the image.

        Albert Levering (American, 1869-1929). Group of three watercolor paintings depicting various fish in their underwater landscapes including "Brook Trout," signed and dated along the lower right; "German Brown Trout," titled and signed along the lower left; and "Rainbow Trout," titled and signed along the lower right. Levering briefly lived in Minneapolis and illustrated for the Minneapolis Journal, a precursor to the Star Tribune, in 1895.

        Art - Albert Levering published pen and ink political illustration art Illustration original art. Pen and Ink on bristol board, 18.75" x 22.5". Soft soiling/handling marks with soft corner crease upper right, repair to minor tear towards left edge, faint pencil marks. Verso with publishers identification of "Overlay Dep't A.M. Wed Mar 24 1909" Signed by Albert Levering lower left "Albert Levering", an important San Antonio, Texas artist and architect. A spectacular inked final published political cartoon. Extensively detailed and vibrantly inked. Depicting two well dressed gents, no doubt political figures of the time, in conversation in a most odd room, somewhat saloon style, surrounded by signs depicting slogans and advertisements that are satirical "Advertising space in the fine GOLD frame to let", "Eat POPPKORN a deleterious breakfast candy", next to others such as "Drink Slewfoot Rye', and "The Hotform Corset, sold only by dealers' . Signed by Levering lower left, this large spectacular piece is in great condition and would display beautifully framed.
