    Est: $1,000 - $2,000

Oil on canvas USA, 1980 Gerhardt Liebmann (1928-1989) – American artist Signed, titled, inscribed and dated in an unknown hand verso Dimensions: 46 x 36 in. (116.8 x 91.4 cm.) Liebmann’s evocative portrait of his young model shows the artist’s love of male sensuality, as the model’s face is turned away while coyly opening the towel. Completed prior to Liebmann's premature death of AIDS in 1989, this beautifully painted portrait strikingly exemplifies his admiration for the human spirit. Literature Patrick Cramer Publisher, "Gerhardt Liebmann: A Renaissance Man" (illustrated in color, p. 39). Condition Relined. Surface dirt and residue. Not examined under UV. Gerhardt Liebmann (American, 1928-1989) Gerhardt Liebmann began his career as an architect before dedicated his energies to painting at the age of forty. His interest in buildings and urban scenes highly influenced his first body of work, as did the abandoned litter found in the streets. In 1982, Liebmann received a commission to record the history and culture of Saudi Arabia in a series of tableaux which he worked on until his untimely death. His works can be found in the collections of the Art Institute, Michigan, Museum of Art in Alberta, The Vatican Museum in Rome, and The Chase Manhattan Bank, New York.
