Alexander von Liezen-Mayer (1839 - 1898 ibid.): Ekkehard's farewell greeting, collotype, 19th century, Reproduction Technique: Reproduction on Paper Date: Description: Scene from the novel "Ekkehard" by Joseph Victor von Scheffel from 1855. In it, the author describes the career of a monk, Ekkehard, who, confused by a love affair, turns away from monastic life and eventually becomes a writer. The sitter, presumably the Duchess Hadwig of Swabia, is sitting on a wall projection with a sad expression. Her head resting in her right hand, she holds a scroll in her left.
