    A MID CENTURY BLACK ENAMELED STEEL CANISTER FLOOR LIGHT, DESIGNERS PHILIP JOHNSON AND RICHARD KELLY, NEW YORK, USA, with a flat rim on a cylindrical body enclosing conforming interior flanges and raised on three short black tubular supports, fitted with a "LINEMASTER TREADLITE SWITCH ®." Height: 12 1/2" Diameter: 7" Note: Although this floor lamp lacks the Kiegl Bros label and the International Brotherhood Electrical Workers label, its' size, materials, construction, and white GE electrical fitting follow that of Kiegl Bros. Possibly the labels were removed when it was rewired at a later date. A virtually identical canister floor lamp (with same white GE electrical fitting and Linemaster Treadlite Switch) given by Philip Johnson and Richard Kelly to Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and in his collection, was passed down to Dirk Lohan and later to a private collector in Chicago, Illinois who offered it through Wright of Chicago March 31, 2022, lot 0204. Provenance: Estate of the late Drs. Wiley and Gloria Biles, Houston, Texas; Proceeds to benefit Houston Baptist University
