(frame).  Note: In 2000, Glenn Ligon began a series of drawings during a residency at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis that were based on coloring books from the 1960s and 70s intended for Black children. Ligon felt that the icons in the coloring books, Malcolm X and Harriet Tubman among others, were not familiar to children within the context of their historical importance. Through a basic childhood activity, Ligon sought to engage children in the cultural importance of their history, and American history in general. The icon represented here is 'Dad'.
