For over a week I explored the vast coastline of the Acadia National Park to find a location that spoke to me. Once I had found that spot, every morning for a week, before the sun drenched the coastline, I had been greeted by bland, colorless skylines. However, my persistence and patience paid off. I wanted to shoot this image in twilight, to give the image a nice warm feel. I carefully composed the shot, using a vertical angle to give the shot dimension and strength. Fifteen minutes prior to sunrise, the soft light was perfect. I worked quickly and exposed a roll of four shots. The round boulders and stunning clouds gave this image a nice warm gentle feeling. Minutes later the sun rose, and it was just another normal day. I feel like I can walk into the shot and touch the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. PETER LIK AUSTRALIAN, 1959 ENCHANTED - EAST HAMPTON, NEW YORK Chromogenic print (C-print) on acrylic mount Lower right signed and numbered: Peter Lik 233 /950; verso "Peter Lik" studio label 45 Artist Proof / 950 Limited Edition Catalogue note: "East Hampton, New York I flew to the East Coast in October to capture the famous fall colors. I spent days combing Long Island looking for the classic East Coast shot–powerful, vibrant, and crisp. This composition spoke to me; almost as if the power and presence of old times was playing out in front of me to create this dramatic effect. Low clouds provided the ideal soft lighting to highlight the subtle but colorful tones of the leaves decorating the ground. After looking more closely at the shot, I discovered a deer standing in the bushes. When the goal is to capture a mood and a feeling, you look for places like this, that provide sensory overload with the winds, the sounds, the colors, and the crispness of the air. One look at this shot, and it's almost as if I'm standing there again. I wanted to capture the magic of this special place – with an image that is familiar and comfortable – but also artistic with the composition and colors. Only the locals even know it exists anymore. Such an architectural masterpiece hidden below the streets of New York. I was very privileged to gain access to City Hall Station. Months of phone calls, emails and persistence finally paid off. The scene was incredible. A one time opportunity to have a private subway ride made this location even more special. I really felt like I was part of history. The cracked headlight, old original chandeliers and ceramic subway tiles really added that special charm and character to this timeless image." On rare occasions I find absolute perfection in nature, where beauty, form, shape and color all connect. This was one of those occasions. Deep in the walls of this amazing canyon, I felt an amazing presence. I was well underground, close to nature's heart and soul. I stood in total awe, staring up at the most beautiful natural sculpture I have seen in my life, carved entirely by nature's hands of time. The overhead sun was moving in fast, and I knew I had to get this frame in the next 15 minutes. The red rocks provided an incredible natural red reflector, highlighting this phenomenal piece of nature. Look at her pretty face, flowing hair, and perfectly sculpted wings – ready to take flight out into the blue skies above. It's a connection I have never found before." I chose an early evening shot with the natural light fading and the city's lights coming up – adding some bright orange highlights to the East River. When I looked through the lens I could almost feel the strength, history and grandeur as I snapped the shutter." Eventually, I was granted special access to a penthouse view that was over the top. Capturing the mood of the city while being cradled by the incredible architecture of the bridge was critical. As twilight approached I started shooting like a madman. The vibe was electric. Seeing the city reflect its charm in the East River added a painterly feel to the shot. Muted colors in the sky provided a subtle backdrop for this stunning view. All my effort paid off this evening: This stunning city displayed all its glory to me in the magical eight seconds of the photograph's exposure. Photography, just love it!" The deep blue neon waters and fauna along the road as you drive are truly magnificent. There are literally thousands of jetties and piers that occupy the coast as you drive down but I wanted that perfect one that typified the Florida Keys. I was halfway down to the Keys. The sun was high in the midday sky, beautiful white clouds were pointed toward the distance and there she was—out of the blue—a jetty leading me into the ocean and beyond paradise." Early one morning before the crowds had arrived, I happened across this old wooden rowboat moored just off the beach.
