      KEVIN LOCKAU (1956 - ) LOGIC STRIPPED BARE glass and metal, 20.5" x 40" x 7" -- 52.1 x 101.6 x 17.8 cm.; 21.5" x 38.5" x 8.5" -- 54.6 x 97.8 x 21.6 cm., both signed to metal frame in black Sharpie, circa 2007 Provenance: Lafrenière & Pai, Ottawa, ON Note: KEVIN LOCKAU (1956 - ) Kevin Lockau was born in 1956 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and moved to Kitchener, Ontario at the age of fifteen. With the hope of becoming a veterinarian, he later enrolled in the Agricultural College at University of Guelph, graduating with a B.Sc. in animal science. He immediately found a job at a nearby industrial hog operation. While he liked working and living on the hog farm, after four years he left to pursue painting, which had come to consume his evenings. In 1982, Lockau entered the Ontario College of Art with the goal become an illustrator, but he became intrigued with glass when he saw second year student ladling glass into a sand mould at a college open house. He soon switched into the glass program, and graduated in 1986. After graduation, Lockau taught part-time at Sheridan College and started a four-year residency at the Harbourfront Glass Studio. Lockau sought out opportunities to grow through collaboration. In 1987, he attended the Pilchuck Glass School, spending four summers with groundbreaking innovators such as the doyens of Czech casting, the husband-and-wife team Stanislav Libensky and Jaroslava Brychtova, and the Swedish sand caster, Bertil Vallien. Over his career, Lockau invented three hot glass casting techniques, and was pivotal in developing the glass studio at Sheridan College, where he taught for 20 years.
