Berlin 1993‘ Framed in a shadow gap frame Dimensions of canvas: 130.5 x 131.6 cm Very good condition Exceptional work by German artist Jens Lorenzen, who is known for his ‘wall paintings’ This large-scale painting by German artist Jens Lorenzen has a strong emphasis on the material and is titled ‘Muttermilch’ [Breast-milk]. Depicted is a woman, who sprays milk form her breast into a jug. The work is an interpretation of the traditional, religious motif of the Nursing Madonna. Mary breastfeeds baby Jesus, whereby Jesus represent God who connects with mankind by means of the Mary’s breast. Lorenzen does not discuss the theme of God, the focus is on the woman as mother and donor of life. The painting is monogrammed at the lower left ‘JL’. On the reverse the canvas is inscribed, titled and dated ‘Jens Lorenzen “Muttermilch” Temp. auf Leinw. Berlin 1993‘. The work is in a very good condition with minimal signs of wear. The dimensions of the canvas are 130.5 x 131.6, while the dimensions including the shadow gap frame are 134.3 x 138.3 cm.
