Peter Anton Lorenzoni Austrian, circa 1721-1782 Portrait of Marianna Martines at the Keyboard Oil on canvas 31 7/8 x 25 1/2 inches (81 x 84.7 cm) Marianna Martines (1744-1812) was born in Vienna into rarified circumstances. The poet Pietro Metastasio lived with her family, and she had the opportunity to study keyboard with Joseph Hayden and composition with Nicola Porpora, both of whom lived in her apartment building. While still a child she began perfoming for the Imperial court as a singer and keyboard artist, and was soon known throughout Europe not only as a performer, but also as a classical composer. Her surviving works include masses, motets, oratorios, cantatas, concertos and one symphony. C

Ription Peter Anton Lorenzoni (Cles near Trient

      Est: €6,000 - €9,000

Ription Peter Anton Lorenzoni (Cles near Trient 1721 - 1782 Salzburg), attributed to Susanna and the Elders, oil on canvas, 69 x 85 cm, framed, (Wo) Peter Anton Lorenzoni belonged to the circle of students around Paul Troger, one of the most prominent artists of the 18th century. The latter's art and that of his pupils had a major impact on the development of art in the Habsburg Empire at a time when Austria went through a political and cultural heyday. In the present painting, Troger's figural approach is distinctly recognizable. Provenance: Viennese private collection We are grateful to Dr. Johann Kronbichler, Director of the Diözesanmuseum, St. Pölten, for suggesting Peter Anton Lorenzoni (e-mail of 18 January 2008).
