DANIEL DE LOSQUES (1880-1915) PETITE PESTE / MARTHE RÉGNIER. Circa 1906. 55x39¼ inches, 139¾x99¾ cm. Ch. Wall & Cie., Paris. Condition B+: repaired tears, creases, minor abrasions and restoration in margins and along vertical and horizontal folds; punch holes at sides filled in; paper and ink stamps in upper right corner; slight toning. "Marthe Régnier was a reigning favorite of the Paris comic stage who delighted theatergoers with her vivacious, intelligent, tomboyish portrayals" (Gold p. 88). It was fitting then, that the artist rendered the actress in a playful, caricature style, reminiscent of Cappiello. Henri-Daniel-Casimir-Paul Thouroude, also known as Daniel De Losques, was a French artist and illustrator. He studied at the prestigious Académie Julian in Paris and went on to illustrate for numerous newspapers and publications such as Le Figaro, L'Aurore, Le Matin, Le Rire, Le Monde illustré, Paris illustré and Le Théâtre. In 1910, De Losques opened his own printing studio called Losques studio, which predominantly produced posters for concerts and theater performances. His life was cut short in WWI during his time as a bomber, when his plane was shot down by a German aircraft in 1915. This is the version with text. Gold 127.

            Est: $3,000 - $4,000

ARTIST: DANIEL DE LOSQUES (David Thoroude, 1880-1915) SIZE: 39 7/8 x 25 5/8 in./101.5 x 65.2 cm PRINTER: DESCRIPTION: Vroom vroom! Our open-air riders seem to have escaped the stratosphere and are floating amongst the planets while a French police officer appears to try to snag them. The vehicle itself is likely either a Darracq SS20 or an Opel Touring, both from about 1910. We do not know of a final poster created from this image, though it would have made for a great lithographic advertisement. De Losques was the pseudonym of David Thoroude, who studied law and started out as a law firm employee before switching to art. Along with designing posters, he drew magazine illustrations and caricatures from 1904-1914. His career was cut tragically short by his death in aerial combat during World War I. Original Vintage Mistinguett Poster by de Losques 1911 Cabaret

            Est: $2,500 - $3,500

Jeanne Florentine Bourgeois (1875 - 1956) sold flowers in her hometown of Soisy-sous-Montemorency before performing as the better known 'Mistinguett' at iconic French performance venues such as Casino de Paris, Folies Bergere and Moulin Rouge. At an early age, Bourgeois dreamed of becoming an entertainer and would practice singing ballads while selling flowers. Mistinguett was well known for her raunchy and flamboyant performances on the stage. She went on to be one of the highest-paid female entertainers of her era. During the 1910s it was commonplace for entertainers to create and distribute posters of themselves to spread the word about their upcoming performances. In this poster by Daniel de Losques in 1911 for Mistinguett, the performer's charm is clear. Mistinguett reminds us of her humble beginnings as a flower seller; she holds a rose behind her back on a meadow in the countryside. Daniel de Losques (1880 - 1915) was a French poster artist who owned his own print studio. He created posters mainly in for the entertainment market. His career and life were cut short when he was gunned down in battle during WWI. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all our posters.

            Daniel De Losques, Mistinguett. 1911.

            Est: €550 - €1,100

Litografia a colori. mm 2000x1200. Firmata nella pietra in basso a sinistra. In basso a sinistra, a lato, indicazione dell'editore Henri Chachoin.
