      Helen Jay Lotterhos (American/Mississippi, 1905-1981), "Pink and Green", 1934, oil on canvas, signed and dated lower right, signed, titled, dated and inscribed "Jackson, Miss." en verso, 13 in. x 13 in., framed. Note: Born in McComb, Mississippi, Helen Lotterhos attended Millsaps College before focusing her education on art, studying both with her cousin, artist Marie Hull, and at the Art Institute of Chicago. Lotterhos moved to Jackson after completing her studies, and she developed friendships with fellow artists Karl Wolfe, William Hollingsworth, and Eudora Welty. Lotterhos participated in artist groups and exhibitions throughout the South, including the Mississippi Art Association and the Art Association of New Orleans. Her paintings were known for their exquisite color combinations, such as the pinks and greens of the flowers in the current lot.
