Hal Lotterman, American, 1920-1995, "Pastorale", oil on masonite, signed, estate stamp

      Est: $800 - $1,200

Hal Lotterman, American, b. 1920, Illinois, Minnesota Abstraction, figurative “Pastorale” Signed upper right, titled on back "Pastorale", estate stamp and "P-36" on verso Hal Lotterman is an admired artist of the midwest, born in 1920. During his artistic career, he exhibited at the Butler Institute of American Art, the first museum devoted to American art. His work has been exhibited in other prominent institutions including the Met, the National Academy of Design in New York, the Baltimore Museum, and the Carnegie Institute. Lotterman’s style exudes dexterity in accentuating human nature. His abstract paintings are characterized by broad, sweeping brushstrokes. Some of these works exhibit tension in breaks of colored parallel lines, and friction through surging black lines or outlines in others. Through up-close observation, one can see the colors overlap. The bold application of color is heightened through the somber color palette, enlivened with bursts of vibrant colors.
