b. 1944 -

Rodney Love - Born Dartmouth UK...8/11/44.Lived in NZ 2002 to 2010. Working as full time artist/photographer since 1999. After gaining a first class honors degree in fine art in the UK in 1967 Rodney didn't settle into becoming a fine artist truly for himself until the mid 1990's. Up until that point his creativity had been largely diverted into helping maintain a grade one listed historic house in the UK for many years. There he created banquets, including very baroque cakes and floral art, and helped with the planning and execution of the interior decor of the house.

A fascination with architecture and interior design is still found in aspects of his personal work today. In 2002 he went to NZ and stayed for seven years. Since then his creativity has blossomed and his artistic output has been prolific. Although Rodney is hard to pin down with regard to a particular look, medium or style. Two things pervade all his various visual expressions; a total love of colour and ambiguity, ( or hidden secrets), which just appear of themselves in the subject matter. Hiding in the archival ink print collection of digitally manipulated photographs, known as "Nature's Secrets", there are faces, animals, nature spirits, all of which just appear in the process of execution.

Photos of ordinary buildings in his "Auckland Collection", that have reflections of life on the outside, bring different levels of life and concepts of reality together in a challenging medley of colour and imagery. Similarly with the Claremont Collection of archival ink prints from large coloured pencil, floral drawings, executed in the 1990's, there are appearances of what might be described as nature spirits. "It isn't a conscious decision to have the art work on multiple levels it just comes out that way, whatever the subject matter or medium". Rodney's innate fascination with hidden levels of reality, which finds expression in all his artistic output, is summed up in this quote about his own work.

"I get lost in the minute detail. There suddenly comes a stage in the process of creation where the individual points of fascination coalesce into a recognisable image. The resulting experience for me, and I hope for the viewer, is truly blissful. The whole is suddenly present but it expresses more than the sum of the parts. This experience can be innocently breathtaking." Since 2012 Rodney Love has resided in the South of France
