Dane Lovett Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1984 -

Dane Lovett, painter, was born in Brisbane in 1984. Lovett received his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Queensland University of Technology in 2004. In 2007 he completed an Honours degree in Fine Art, gaining first class, at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne.
Lovett’s works are primarily acrylic on canvas although the artist has also experimented with watercolour and gouache on paper. Lovett’s paintings are clinical yet quite delicate representations of reality. His works often juxtapose traditional still-life images, including flowers or tables, with musical iconography such as cassettes, CDs and classic synthesizers. Such works provoke questions regarding the personal significance of the spaces they represent as proposed by Lovett who has suggested they might evoke “scenes from your broken heart” (pers. comm.).

Lovett has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally. His solo shows include 'Dedication’ at Chalk Horse Gallery, Sydney (2009); 'Catch the Spirit’ at Seventh Gallery, Melbourne (2009); 'Love to Love You Baby’ at Firstdraft, Sydney (2009); 'New and Used Paintings’ at TCB art inc, Melbourne (2008); 'Ring Modulator’ at Harrison Galleries, Sydney (2006); 'Bellevue Rivals’ at Art Galleries Schubert, Gold Coast (2006); and 'Private Eye’ at Brian Moore Gallery, Sydney (2005). In addition to these exhibitions, Lovett has participated in the following group shows: ' Linden Innovators 2’ at the Linden Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne (2010); 'Worm Mountain’ at C3 Contemporary Artspace, Melbourne (2010); 'Music makes the people come together’ at Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery (2008); 'Metro 5 Art Award Exhibition’ at Metro 5 Gallery, Melbourne (2008); 'Memento Mori’ at Blkmrkt Gallery, Gold Coast (2007); 'Gadens Top Ten Exhibition’ at Gadens Lawyers, Brisbane (2007); and 'Hungry Like The Wolf’ at the Victorian College of the Arts Student Gallery, Melbourne (2007).
Lovett has been a finalist in a number of prizes including the Royal Bank of Scotland’s Emerging Artist Award (2010); the Metro Art Award (2007, 2009 and 2010); the Arthur Guy Memorial Painting Prize (2009); and the ABN AMRO Emerging Art Prize (2006). He also received an ARIA nomination in 2006 for his album cover artwork for Eskimo Joe’s Black Fingernails, Red Wine . His works are held by Artbank and in a number of private collections.
