William Lovett (1773-1801)- Self-Portrait, circa 1795. Attached to the back is a handwritten note:  “Self-portrait of my grandfather -William Lovett-(1773-1801) The only picture saved from a fire which destroyed an exhibition of his works held in Boston. The present lot was purportedly discovered on 700 Acre Island off Islesboro, Maine, an island previously owned in part by Charles Dana Gibson. Condition: Losses and imperfections.
