Marvin Lowe Indiana, (1922-2010) untitled abstract, 1970 oil on paper signed and dated lower right. Bloom Magazine biography: owe was a true renaissance man, a Juilliard trained jazz saxophonist, who also received a MFA in printmaking at the University of Iowa, under the direction of world famous Mauricio Lasansky. Lowe taught at Berea College in Kentucky and at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania. Lowe came to Indiana University in 1967, where he and Rudy Pozzatti worked together building the IU Printmaking Workshop. Joined by Wendy Calman in 1976, they spent the next fifteen years creating the most successful and highest-ranked printmaking program in the United States. Marvin Lowe retired from teaching in 1991. Lowe's works have been shown in over two hundred national and international exhibitions, and can be found in eighty permanent museum, university, and corporate collections, most notably the British Museum, the Japan Print Association (Tokyo), the Library of Congress, the New York Public Library, the Smithsonian Institution, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Brooklyn Museum. He had over fifty solo exhibitions and received more than thirty awards; among them a National Endowment for the Arts Artist's Fellowship and a Ford Foundation grant.

In 1967 he joined the faculty at Indiana University at Bloomington where he teamed with Rudy Pozzatti and later with Wendy Calman to build the Printmaking Workshop, which earned an outstanding reputation for teaching and research. He retired from teaching in 1991. Lowe received a National Endowment for the Arts Artist’s Fellowship and a Ford Foundation Grant. His prints and mixed media paintings were included in over two hundred national and international exhibitions. Lowe’s work is represented in over eighty permanent museum, university, and corporate collections, including the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts, the Art Institute of Chicago, the British Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, the Library of Congress, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, etc. Offered here is a major original color mixed technique intaglio with serigraphy , pencil signed, lower right , pencil titled, dated, and editioned 11/30, 1972, on heavy cream wove paper, 23 3/4 x 24 3/8" image size. A small light area of sun-toning at bottom edge will not show when framed. The title is Voodoo of the Western World.
