        Johann ChRistoph Ludwig LüCke (1719-1777). Portrait de l’empereur Pierre le Grand. Médaillon ovale en ivoire sculpté, dans un cadre octogonal hollandais. 10,5 x 8 cm. Issu d’une famille d’ivoiriers de Dresde, Johann Christoph Ludwig Lücke est connu pour son buste de l’impératrice Anne Ioannovna excécuté vers 1735 et conservé à l’Ermitage. Notre portrait sculpté doit certainement appartenir à cette même période, Pierre étant l’oncle de la souveraine. He is usually portrayed wearing the lastest fashion, of aristocratic demeanour, although he is sometimes seen as faintly ridiculous. See Giovanni & Gabriella Barrilla Collection, Sotheby's, London, 14 March 2012, lot 164 and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Accession No.43.100.46, for further examples this model.
