Legatura in pergamena floscia con titolo scritto in inchiostro bruno sul dorso. Marca tipografica al frontespizio, capolettera e finalini xilografici. Sottolineature e postille manoscritte in inchiostro bruno al margine. In Testamentum Raymundi Lulli doctissimi et celeberrimi philosophi sono presenti delle illustrazioni xilografiche e due tavole doppie ripiegate nel fascicolo 2A. Tarli, lievi danni alla legatura, strappi marginali, macchie e bruniture.

Legatura in piena pelle, con ampi fregi dorati e titoli su tassello al dorso, tagli rossi e sguardie marmorizzate. Abrasioni alle cuffie e alle unghiature, forellini di tarlo al dorso. LEGATO CON: Alsted Johann Heinrich, Clavis artis Lullianae, et verae logices duos in libellos tributa... Argentorati: Sumptibus heredum Lazari Zetzneri, 1652.       RAMON LULL (c. 1232-1315) De secretis naturae, o della quinta essentia libri duo...De cose minerali, & metalliche libri quinque. [Edited by Pietro Lauro]. Venice: Giovambattista and Marchio Sessa, 1557. 8° (155 x 100mm). Woodcut device on title, woodcut illustrations including two full-page, woodcut initials. (Occasional waterstaining and browning, few small clean tears.) Contemporary limp vellum, manuscript title on spine, contemporary printer's waste in binding (somewhat worn). A translation of Ryff's edition (see previous lot). Pietro Lauro was a prolific translator into Italian of texts for Venetian printers and his own collection of letters was published in 1552 revealing his reformist tendencies. In the late 1550s he produced numerous translations of alchemical and medical works. Together with two other works by the same author: Codicillus seu vade mecum (Cologne: heirs of Arnold Birckman, 1572) and Opera ea quae ad adinventam ab ipso artem universalem (Strassburg: heirs of Lazarus Zetzner, 1617).

Strassburg: Balthasar Beck, March 1541. 8° (137 x 82mm). Woodcut illustrations including three full-page. (Without final blank, title and quires A-E repaired, mainly at lower corner with some words and sections of woodcuts supplied in manuscript, full-page woodcut shaved at foredge, S7-8, T1 and V1-2 heavily browned, other occasional light browning.) 19th-century vellum, lettered in gilt on spine (removed shelfmark on spine). Provenance: Giacomo Boncompagni, Duke of Sora (1548-1612; ink stamp on title with his dragon crest) — ‘S’ (ink stamp on endpaper). RARE. Ryff's first edition of these tracts in which the philosophical system of Lull is explained and developed around the relationship with nature and the different characteristics of the metals and stones. Lull’s alchemical works were published singularly and in collections; this work was printed as a separate edition. Giacomo Boncompagni was the natural son of Pope Gregory XIII, who acquired the Duchy of Sora for his son in 1579. His library was assembled in the 1570s and 1580s.
