            Thomas Luny (1759-1837) Oil on Canvas Luny was born in Cornwall, St Ewe, in 1759. At the age of eleven, Luny left Cornwall to live in London. There he became the apprentice of Francis Holman. Luny left Holman's studio in 1780, and It was around this time that Luny was frequently exhibiting at the Royal Academy, in a total of twenty-nine exhibitions between 1780 and 1802. Several years later, in 1807, Luny decided to move to Teignmouth in Devon. There he received a number of commissions (mostly from ex-mariners, local gentry, and the like), and he continued to be as successful in his work as he had been in London. over 2,200 Paintings were produced by Luny between 1807 and his death on the 30 September 1837. This Piece is unsigned but attributed to Luny. It is in very good condition, beautifully framed and even comes with In Built Display Light that you can hardwire to the wall or wire to a powerpoint. She fought valiantly in the battle of Trafalgar under Captain John Cook, who died aboard during the battle. Nevertheless, Thomas Luny paints her in her most memorable action: the capture of Napoleon after the battle of Waterloo under the commandership of Captain Maitland. Here, Napoleon is being taken to Torbay, where he was held captive before being sent to Plymouth, from where conveyed to exile on the island of St. Elena.
