      Large-scale oil on canvas in antique gilt frame. Signed, titled or inscribed "Fredensborg" and dated 1894 lower left. With inscriptions verso to stretcher: "Carl Thrane" and to frame: "Gartner[?] [...] Boge Svendborg" (upper edge) and "Gustav Thrane" (lower edge); old label affixed to frame reads "Frk. Luplaus B[...] / [?] Carl Thrane [struck through]". Dimensions: (Frame) H 37" x W 43.5" ; (Painting) H 26.5" x W 32". Condition: Painting with yellowed varnish and/or heavy surface grime throughout. Canvas slightly wavy on stretcher. Frame with losses and old retouches. Henriette Marie Antonette Luplau (1848-1925). An important figure in both Danish art and LGBTQ Women's History, Luplau is best known for her 1897 painting "From the First Days of the Woman's Suffrage Campaign" a depiction of a suffragette meeting led by her mother, Line Luplau, which hung for many years inside Danish Parliament. In 1886, Luplau and her partner Emilie Mundt founded an art school for women at their home in Copenhagen, where they trained many other artists of note, including Astrid Valborg Holm and Emilie Demant Hatt.
