Adelia Armstrong Lutz (1859-1931) was known for painting portraits, landscapes, and still lifes. She was born in Jefferson County, Tennessee. She studied art at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C., at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and abroad. Upon her return to Knoxville in 1887, she was a director of the Knoxville Art Club and co-organized the Nicholson Art League. She married John Edwin Lutz in 1885 and they built their home, "Westwood", on Knoxville's Kingston Pike in approximately 1890.

    Adelia Armstong Lutz (American, Tennessee, 1859-1931) oil on academy board. Possibly a self-portrait. The painting depicts the artist wearing a dress with large pink rose pinned to the front, rendered in loose, impressionistic brushstrokes. Signed "A.A. Lutz" and dated "1929" lower right. Housed in a wood lattice-style frame with carved stylized foliate corners. Sight: 191/2" H x 15 1/2" W. Framed: 28" H x 24" W.
