Matthew is an MIT educated nuclear engineer who traveled the world and resided in London, San Diego, Chicago, Connecticut and Philadelphia. Mr Siegel was drawn to paintings of industrial facilities, workmen, sports, movement and genre paintings depicting the building of our world. His philosophy was to choose an artist who had good form and a grasp of movement, over and above the size of the painting or previous sales value. Each painting will include a letter that it was part of his collection.

        "The Stubborn Child" Signed lower right. Provenance: Christie's New York. Originally sold for $3,312 in 1989. Overall size: 35 x 32 in. Sight size: about 27 x 24 in. Philip Lyford was a commercial artist and magazine illustrator who created imaginative advertising for a diverse range of clients, and a patriotic WWII recruiting poster. He painted historical events, boats, Maine scenes, portraits and did book illustrations. He was a nationally known portrait painter and did illustrations for a number of national magazines, including The Saturday Evening Post. During World War I he painted many posters for the war bond drives and in 1937 was awarded the Poor Richard Medal for outstanding achievement in the field of advertising art.
