      ANTONÍN MACHEK 1775 - 1844 - PORTRAIT OF A MAN

      Est: -

From the opinion of PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová: "Machek purposefully captured the likenesses of important personalities of his time and circle of life, at the same time he particularly focused on the world of artists, writers and scientists. Antonín Machek signed his numerous works only exceptionally. The presented portrait is characterized by a concise and vivid individual characteristic of the face and delicate coloring. The face is modeled with delicate pink valeres with accurate rendering of all the details of both the face and the clothing. The symbolism of gestures and attributes is one of the features of the classicism of the period, and Machek often and gladly used it." Technique: oil on canvas, Signed: unsigned

      FRANZ EYBL - attributed (1806 - 1880) - PORTRAIT OF A MAN IN UNIFORM

      Est: -

A male portrait from a representative of the Austrian Empire portrait. It represents a realistic way of capturing a model without ostentation and pathos. The artist captured the forms of important personalities, but also landscapes and genre paintings. The face of the person portrayed is characterized by concise and vivid individual characteristics and delicate colors, it is modeled by delicate pink valeries with an accurate depiction of all details. The half-figure of a man reveals in small details the character of the person portrayed. Thanks to the precisely executed gold-crumpled collar, we can estimate that he is a high-ranking, prominent state official of the financial administration, judging by the green inserts. Dating from 1849 is revealed by "rosettes", which were introduced for senior officials. The three rosettes in connection with the golden color of the edging and, moreover, with its width, point to a financial administration official at least in the 8th grade - an inspector or a high commissioner. A portrait of this financier originally hung in Prague Castle. Technique: Oil on canvas, Signed: Unsigned

ANTONIN MACHEK (1775–1844): PORTRAIT OF A MAN WITH WRITING TOOLS

      Est: -

/ Around 1840 / Oil on canvas / 78,5 x 63,5 cm This male portrait by a leading Czech Empire-style portrait painter of the early 19th century, Antonín Machek, whose portraits are among the very best of the period, is a beautiful work that represents Machek's method of depicting the model without flamboyance or pathos. The artist focused on portraying the likenesses of major figures, particularly artists, writers and scientists. The face of the portrayed man is distinctive for its apt and lifelike individual characteristics and delicate color, shaped by gentle pink gradations and an exact rendering of all the details. The half-figure of the man, sitting in front of a brocade drape, is dressed in a matte black suit with a white shirt-front and collar and a black cravat. The ink-well and the sheet of paper the man is holding in his hand are additional features that express the man's occupation or social standing. Expert assessment: PhDr. PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová.
